Confirmed: Barcelona star Karim Adeyemi omitted from Germany squad; Ter Stegen called up

Barcelona forward Karim Adeyemi has been omitted from Germany’s squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures, while Marc-André ter Stegen has earned a recall from manager Jürgen Klopp, according to Barca Universal on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

Germany are scheduled to travel to Serbia on November 13 before welcoming the Netherlands three days later, with both matches important for the national team. The selections have produced contrasting outcomes for the two Barcelona-connected players, as Adeyemi misses out and Ter Stegen receives another opportunity to represent his country.

Adeyemi’s absence follows a frustrating run in front of goal since his move to Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund during the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old made an encouraging start at Camp Nou for the Spanish champions.

His early progress was also recognised internationally, with Klopp including him in Germany’s squad for the previous international break. That call-up offered the forward an opportunity to strengthen his position within the national team and build momentum after changing clubs.

However, Adeyemi has struggled to maintain that early promise in recent weeks. He has gone seven consecutive appearances for Barcelona without scoring in any competition, a spell that appears to have weakened his case for selection. Although the precise reasons behind Klopp’s decision have not been disclosed, his lack of goals may have been a significant consideration.

The omission will be particularly disappointing for Adeyemi because he was also left out of Germany’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His appearance in the previous international gathering had offered hope that he could work his way back into the coach’s plans and establish a more regular role.

Instead, the latest decision means he must wait for another opportunity. His immediate priority will be to improve his contribution for Barcelona, where a return to scoring form would strengthen his chances of attracting attention from the national team selectors again.

Ter Stegen, meanwhile, has been rewarded with a place in the squad despite spending the current season away from Barcelona. The goalkeeper moved to Ajax on loan during the summer after losing his position at Camp Nou, seeking regular first-team football to rebuild his form and maintain his international prospects.

His return to more consistent playing time in the Netherlands has helped keep him in consideration for Germany. The 34-year-old is also viewed as a leading figure in the national team’s goalkeeping department following Manuel Neuer’s retirement from international football.

Ter Stegen will now have the chance to use the Serbia and Netherlands fixtures to strengthen his claim for the starting position. Having previously captained Barcelona, he brings experience, although his place as Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper is not guaranteed by the call-up alone.

The two selections therefore leave the Barcelona players facing different challenges. Ter Stegen can use the international window to build on his return to regular football, while Adeyemi must focus on producing more decisive performances at club level. A sustained improvement in his finishing could put the forward back in contention for future Germany squads.
