According to a report by FootballTransfers on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Manchester United could be forced to sign a new striker during the January transfer window amid concerns that Benjamin Sesko may remain out of action until 2027.
The Red Devils reportedly fear that the Slovenia international could miss the remainder of the year because of an ongoing injury problem, increasing the urgency to strengthen their attacking options.
Sesko, 23, has experienced fitness problems since suffering a shin injury in the spring, which disrupted his preparations for the new season.
The striker then suffered another setback during Manchester United’s Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton before the recent international break.
According to the report, which cites The Sun, Sesko could be unavailable until January, although there is optimism that he will return before February. However, the exact nature of his latest injury remains unclear.
United manager Michael Carrick has already indicated that the club are considering potential additions in January, although their recruitment plans will depend on the opportunities available in the market.
"Whatever that looks like at this stage, we don't quite know," Carrick said.
He added: "But without doubt, there's opportunity because the transfer window is open. So we'll definitely be looking at that and trying to come out stronger in whatever way that looks like."
One player reportedly attracting United’s interest is Dinamo Zagreb striker Dion Beljo, who has enjoyed an impressive spell since returning to Croatia.
The 24-year-old scored 19 goals in 49 appearances during his loan spell at Rapid Vienna before continuing his impressive form at Dinamo Zagreb, where he has recorded 53 goals in 63 appearances. He has also scored 15 goals in 15 matches this season.
However, Manchester United could face competition for his signature, with Newcastle United and AC Milan reportedly monitoring the Croatian international.
Dinamo Zagreb are understood to have rejected a €20 million offer from Real Betis during the summer, having placed a €25 million valuation on the striker. His recent performances could see the asking price rise beyond €30 million.
United have also been linked with Freiburg forward Igor Matanovic, who has scored six goals in 10 appearances this season. However, Freiburg’s financial position could complicate negotiations as the Premier League club assess their options ahead of January.
