Manchester United is targeting Bournemouth left-back Adrien Truffert as part of a defensive rebuild for the summer of 2027, according to The i Paper. Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall is another option under consideration.
United has admired Truffert for some time, and the report suggests he could leave Bournemouth at the end of the season. Competition for the Frenchman is expected to be strong as other clubs assess his progress on the south coast.
Bournemouth signed the 24-year-old from Rennes in June 2025 on a five-year contract, tying him to the club until 2030. That leaves Bournemouth with substantial time remaining on his deal when United plans to revisit its defensive options next summer.
Hall remains on the list after Newcastle’s valuation prevented United from pursuing a deal during the previous summer window. The report says the England international was interested in moving to Old Trafford and would still be open to the switch.
The search comes with Luke Shaw’s future unresolved. His contract expires at the end of this season, and a renewal would depend on accepting lower wages and his fitness. United also plans to recruit at least one center-back.
Truffert offers an attacking option on the left, having played both at full-back and further forward during his time in France. His move to England has given him the chance to demonstrate that ability against Premier League opposition before another possible transfer.
He scored his first Bournemouth goal in the 2-1 win at Newcastle in April, starting the move before arriving in the penalty area to finish it with five minutes remaining. The victory strengthened Bournemouth’s push for European qualification.
Truffert was also included in Zinedine Zidane’s first France squad last month. His club performances and continued place in the international picture give United an established option as it prepares to address the left side of its defense.
