Swansea City v Blackburn Rovers

Swansea v Blackburn Sat 31 Oct 15:00

After the humiliating defeat on Saturday, this week we have to pick up the pieces, analyse what went wrong, try to get back on track and show it was only a blip.

What we don’t want is a third defeat in a row and dismantling our fine start to the season.

How the previous best defence in the Championship collapsed like a pack of cards within 15 minutes of the start to a team decimated by injuries to their players is up for debate, with team selection inevitably under scrutiny.

It seemed every time QPR attacked they would score.

The weak midfield of Just and Eustaquio didn’t help and gave no protection to the defence, with Fulton and Franco on the bench.

Widell is no winger yet he was played out wide with Eom and Monga on the bench.

Idah and Vipotnik are not scoring because nobody is creating chances for them.

Vigouroux, although a decent shot stopper, didn’t command his area, had questionable positioning and was weak on crosses.

Tymon kept misplacing passes and causing turnovers, also that free kick where he ballooned the ball almost out of the ground.

You could name every Swans player and not one played to their potential.

Previous 5-0 hammering’s were Dec 2016 Spurs 5 - 0 Swansea (Premier League) under Bob Bradley and Jan 2024 Bournemouth 5 - 0 Swansea (FA Cup Fourth Round) under Luke Williams, who admitted getting his team selection and tactics wrong afterwards.

On to Blackburn then, where our fans will expect a strong response from the players. Rovers are a team in the ascendancy, one defeat in six matches, the latest result a 2-0 home win over Wrexham.

Danger men centre-forward Andri Gudjohnsen is one to watch, with 8 goals in 11 games to his name including two last Saturday against Wrexham, attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell, also left-winger Dapo Afolayan is another with 4 goals.
