Kai Rooney scored four goals for Manchester United on Tuesday in a 6-0 hammering. Wayne Rooney’s eldest son’s clinical streak continues and has left fans all saying the same thing.

The 16-year-old forward started up front for United’s U18 side against Burnley and opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Rooney Jnr found the net from the spot to make it 2-0 just four minutes after half-time as United’s youngsters turned on the style.

Rooney completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute before adding his and United’s fourth just three minutes later, wrapping up a 44-minute haul to extend Darren Fletcher’s side’s winning run.

United added a fifth through 17-year-old Spaniard Jaume Camacho before Noah Ajayi continued his momentum in the youth sides when he made it six in the 84th minute.

In a time when United’s first team are struggling immensely with Michael Carrick’s job on the line after an eight-game winless run continued in the 3-0 battering by Bournemouth on Sunday, Rooney’s form is offering United fans some hope.

Kai’s goals had supporters calling for his involvement in the first-team, as one user suggested he should be in the side that will face Chelsea next in the Premier League, quipping: “What's he up to Saturday about half 12ish?”

A second said: “This boy is better than all our forwards. Him and Lacey fr.” A third echoed: “Play him next match against Chelsea f*** it.” As a fourth added: “Put him in the first team get some Rooney passion in the team.”

Another furious fan wrote: “Just playing U-18 vs Chelsea, First team is s***!!” A sixth asked: “Is he too young to start in the first team?” As another joked: “Thank God I started supporting the U18 team and left the senior team.”

Rooney’s goals mean he’s now scored five in just three U18 Premier League games this season after previously scoring in a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest and assisting in a 6-3 win over Liverpool.

However, despite fans’ wishful thinking, Rooney is still some way off in his development after he only made his Premier League 2 debut off the bench against Forest earlier this month.

Rooney’s form is a welcome distraction from United’s first team woes, but Carrick’s tenure is set to go on after the Glazers and INEOS decided after crisis talks over his future that the legendary midfielder would remain in his position.

It looked inevitable that Carrick would face the axe, but the 45-year-old is set to take charge of United at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime.
