DISTILLATE can complete an all-weather hat-trick for visiting trainer Ado McGuinness in division two of the AW Trials Day - Lingfield 2nd Jan 2027 Handicap (6.30, NAP) at Wolverhampton today.
The Co Dublin trainer has plundered six wins from his trips over the Irish Sea to date this year, including winning the Cambridgeshire Handicap.
Distillate has contributed two successes to that score to give the stable a 24 per cent strike rate in Britain. The five-year-old daughter of Havana Grey had shown very little during a busy season, even at Dundalk, but, after her handicap mark had slipped by 10lb, she made no mistake at Southwell 12 days ago and was even more convincing off a 5lb penalty four days later.
Yet to be reassessed for her second success she actually carries 2lb less on this latest start and although this is a different track, the result should be the same.
At Catterick BARMYBLADE can score again at his favourite track in division one of the Celebrating Helen MacKinnon's LX Years Handicap (1.40, NB). The Tim Easterby-trained four-year-old makes his fifth appearance at the venue from his last six starts.
He won there in July and failed by a neck to make all the running over course and distance in August. He returned from a two month break to disappoint at Pontefract last time out but the return to Catterick will bring out the best of him.
Over jumps there are few better at placing horses than Jamie Snowden who can land the Border Minstrel Dog Friendly Pub Maiden Hurdle (12.56) with dual Bumper winner WILDE’S LEGACY on his hurdles debut.
