On 24 October 2024, South Africa beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. It was their first Test win in Asia since a 153-run victory over Sri Lanka in Galle in July 2014.

Kagiso Rabada led the way with 9-72 in the match, including 6-46 in Bangladesh’s second innings. He had already made history on day one, when he bowled Mushfiqur Rahim for his 300th Test wicket. It took him 11,817 balls, fewer than any bowler before him. Pakistan’s Waqar Younis held the previous record at 12,602 balls.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 106 in the first innings, with Wiaan Mulder taking 3-22. Kyle Verreynne then made 114 to lift South Africa to 308, and he was named Player of the Match.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 97 as Bangladesh reached 307 in their second innings, which left South Africa 106 to win. Tony de Zorzi scored 41 and Tristan Stubbs finished unbeaten on 30 as South Africa reached 106-3 to win.

South Africa went on to win the second Test in Chattogram by an innings and 273 runs to sweep the series 2-0, and Rabada was named Player of the Series.
