Rossington Main have advanced to the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Quarter-Finals following a 2-1 win over Dinnington Town, a Step 7 side. This marks the second consecutive season that Ben Hunter and Greg Young’s team have reached the last eight, having previously overcome Denaby Main in Round Two.
The match began with early intensity as Dinnington struck the post within the first five minutes. Shortly after, Rossington responded with Mason Warren’s deep free-kick hitting the crossbar. From the resulting scramble, Ollie Currie’s shot was blocked, but captain Reece Fielding was fouled in the box, earning a penalty for Rossington. Despite receiving treatment and eventually leaving the field, Fielding’s penalty was taken by Oli Nowak, who confidently converted into the bottom-left corner.
Rossington extended their lead just before half-time. Warren’s precise out-swinging corner caused confusion in the Dinnington defence. Currie initially saw his header blocked by teammate Mohssen Mohamed, but he reacted swiftly to score from the rebound.
After the interval, Rossington pushed for a third goal. Harry Wilson’s looping shot narrowly missed, and Mohamed appeared to score after rounding the goalkeeper, only for the effort to be ruled offside. Dinnington, currently fifth in the Camper UK Premier Division North, reduced the deficit when Gary Heath’s header was not held by Rossington’s keeper Kian Johnson, allowing Gabe Oloko to score from close range.
Dinnington mounted a late challenge for an equaliser, but Rossington maintained their composure. Mohamed again beat the goalkeeper but was denied by a defender, and Wilson fired over an open goal from the edge of the box. Ultimately, Rossington held on to secure their quarter-final spot, now turning their focus to Saturday’s league fixture against Retford United.
