The UCLA Bruins did what they’ve done all season on Saturday against Minnesota, staying unbeaten with a 34-20 win over the Golden Gophers. It was a challenging game for the Bruins but once again the team was able to come out on top yet again.
Now UCLA is 9-0 and are one step closer to reaching the College Football Playoff by picking up the road win. It won’t get easier from here, ending the regular season with Illinois, Michigan and USC but for yet another weekend the Bruins are still unbeaten. Here are five stars from UCLA’s road win over Minnesota
Sammy Omosigho has been one of the very best defenders in the entire country and that continued on Saturday. He may have had only three tackles but he recorded two pass breakups, having a great day in coverage. Omosigho also had a tackle for loss that was taken off the board due to a Minnesota holding call.
Aidan Mizell made the most of his opportunities on Saturday, taking both of his receptions for 75 yard touchdowns. Mizell has been the deep threat for the Bruins this year and he came up big time in Week 10.
UCLA isn’t fooling any defenses when they give Wayne Knight the ball. Knight rushed in another touchdown, adding 109 yards and another 28 yards through the air. Knight has been UCLA’s best weapon this year and he showed up again on Saturday.
All of UCLA’s secondary showed up on Saturday. Dante Lovett, Scooter Jackson and Derrick Barksdale all having big games against Minnesota. Barksdale blocked a punt and made seven tackles, Lovett played great defense on the outside and added six tackles while Jackson got the lone interception of the game and broke up two passes.
Ty Dieffenbach was far from perfect on Saturday, turning the ball over twice, but he made some big time throws. Dieffenbach hit Mizell for touchdowns twice, connected with Noah Fox-Flores for another touchdown and did just enough to lead UCLA to another win.
