Borders boxer wins two bouts before World quarter-final loss

The four-time British champion was in fine form during her first round of the 54kg bantamweight category when she got the better of Greece’s Sofia Ntiliou. After a slow start, she grew into the bout to seal a commanding 4-1 split decision.

That saw her match-up with Zhanel Imantayeva in the last-16 where again the Borderer proved too strong for her opponent in a 3-2 decision.

Despite being amongst the younger boxers in the competition, the two victories ensured a quarter-final place where another triumph would guarantee a World Championship medal.

Unfortunately for the 17-year-old, it wasn’t to be as she was defeated by eventual runner-up Guadalupe Ruiz of the United States.
