The Afghanistan Premier League (APL) player draft will take place in Dubai on November 3, with former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir among the high-profile names in the pool. The 34-year-old has registered using his British citizenship, with the United Kingdom listed as his country of residence.

Amir has been placed in the Platinum tier, the highest category available in the draft. The pacer has also turned his attention towards domestic competitions in England, including the T20 Blast and The Hundred. He is looking to continue his career in franchise cricket after stepping away from international duties.

Mohammad Amir Registers for APL Draft in Platinum Category

Mohammad Amir acquired British citizenship in May 2026, while Pakistan remains his affiliated national cricket board. He has been placed in the Platinum tier, the highest category available in the November 3 draft.

The left-arm pacer made his final international appearance for Pakistan against Ireland at the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup in Lauderhill, Florida. He represented his country across three separate stints between 2009 and 2024, taking 119 wickets in 36 Tests, 81 in 61 ODIs and 71 in 62 T20Is.

His British citizenship has also drawn comparisons with Pakistan-born Azhar Mahmood, who represented Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab in the IPL between 2012 and 2015 despite the restrictions on Pakistani nationals in the competition.

The PCB is expected to deny No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to current Pakistani domestic cricketers seeking to participate in the APL because of cross-border cricket policies.

Mohammad Amir's T20 Record Strengthens His Value in APL Draft

Mohammad Amir has featured in several major competitions, including the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Amir has taken 334 wickets in 279 T20 innings at an average of 22.70 and an economy rate of 7.45, with his best figures in the format standing at 6/17. Known for his swing with the new ball and ability to deliver at the death, he has remained a sought-after name in franchise competitions.

The left-arm pacer also made history in the PSL by taking the tournament's first-ever hat-trick in the 2016 season. He later played a key role in Karachi Kings' maiden PSL title win in 2020.

KS Bharat, Vijay Shankar and Murugan Ashwin Among Indian Players in APL Draft

Mohammad Amir is not the only notable name in the draft. Former India wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat, who has retired from all formats, including the IPL, has entered the pool in the Gold category. Former India all-rounder Vijay Shankar and spinner Murugan Ashwin have also registered in the same tier.

The three former India players are among the 462 cricketers shortlisted for the draft. Oman batter Ayaan Khan and former India U19 captain Unmukt Chand, who represents the United States, feature on the list.

The UAE contingent includes Rahul Chopra, Akshdeep Nath, Alishan Sharafu, Aryan Afzal Khan and Dhruv Parashar. Vraj Patel, who represents Kenya, and Kuwait's Yasin Patel are also among the Indian-origin players in the draft.

The Dubai selection event will give the five participating franchises an opportunity to strengthen their squads with experienced international and emerging players. The tournament is scheduled to begin in December, while the IPL mini-auction will take place separately in Goa on December 16.
