Jonathon Cooper apologizes for insensitive social media posts about Mahomes and Chiefs
Jonathon Cooper apologized for his insensitive remarks about the Broncos last season

Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper issued a public apology to the Kansas City Chiefs after going on an expletive-filled tirade about Denver’s division rival.

Last weekend, the Broncos narrowly fended off the Chiefs, 28-24, to reclaim the top spot in the AFC West. Denver scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter of the game, prompting an introspective reaction from star tight end Travis Kelce.

Rather than celebrate his team’s statement win on social media, Cooper expressed regret for the insensitive remarks he directed towards the Chiefs last season. "Man all do respect to the Chiefs they are a great team," the 28-year-old wrote on X.

"With hall of famers. Players I've aspired to be like. I apologize for my tweets from last year if anyone cares in football matters. That's all for now. Back to work #forgiveandforget."

On December 25, 2025, Cooper helped propel the Broncos to a 20-13 victory over the Chiefs, thereby giving Denver its first AFC West title since 2015.

Following the contest, the Ohio State product ruthlessly slammed Kansas City, writing in a series of since-deleted posts: “F--- the Chiefs. B----- made a-- pansies.”

It appears as though Cooper has now turned over a new leaf, with droves of NFL fans commending him for the growth that he’s shown.

“It’s football bro, you have your own opinion and that’s okay. It’s a rival so you’re entitled to hate. However I respect this and you for your comments man. I wish nothing but love for you,” one X user wrote.

Another added, “Respect man, you really turned your life around. Happy for you and your family. Wish. Nothing but the best!”

A third chimed in, “Coming from a diehard Chiefs fan, you and your team have my respect. Playing out of your minds in the 4th quarter like you have been is no easy task and I hope all these internet baffoons come to understand how hard it is to play in the NFL at an elite level!”

There seems to be no bad blood between Cooper and the Chiefs, either, as Eric Bieniemy heaped praise on the defender while speaking to the reporters ahead of the Week 8 matchup.

“That kid Cooper, and I’m not taking away from anybody out there, but when he’s on the field, there’s a different tempo, there’s a different pace,” Bieniemy said during last Thursday’s media availability session.

“There’s a level of intensity that picks up, and so he gets your attention right away.”

While Cooper’s presence on the field is hard to miss, his stats this season don’t exactly jump off the page. He’s been limited to just two games in 2026 after being placed on the NFL Commissioner's Exempt List following two arrests in June, and has recorded only four tackles across those contests.
