This Oregon football season has been something else. After starting the year with a shocking 4-3 record, the perennial juggernaut led by Dan Lanning fired their offensive coordinator, Drew Mehringer. So, who will the Ducks turn to in order to right the ship and try to salvage their season? Enter Jay Johnson, the much-maligned former offensive coordinator of Michigan State football under Mel Tucker who will now take over play-calling duties for the Ducks.
To put it simply, Jay Johnson was not exactly liked during his time in East Lansing. Outside of the Kenneth Walker season, Johnson's offenses at MSU largely sputtered. You can say that it wasn't all his fault, and I think that's a fair defense, but Johnson was also relieved of his play-calling duties at Wyoming last year before landing in Oregon as an offensive coaching analyst.
Time will tell if this will be a wise move for Lanning and his team. No matter what, they will have to overcome the loss of starting quarterback Dante Moore to a season-ending concussion.
