Bangladesh hit back late on Day 2 of the Mirpur Test after letting the initiative slip earlier in the day with a dramatic batting collapse. At Stumps, West Indies reached 134 for 4 in reply to the hosts' 272 before rain and poor light curtailed proceedings. Jomel Warrican's five-wicket haul had earlier triggered a dramatic Bangladesh collapse, but late strikes from Taijul Islam ensured the visitors could not capitalise fully on their comeback.

Resuming the day at 213 for 3, Bangladesh appeared well placed to build a substantial first-innings total. Instead, they managed only 59 runs on the day, losing seven wickets in the morning session alone. The last five wickets fell for just 19 runs.

Bishop initiated the slide by dismissing Shadman Islam soon after the opener, restarting on his overnight score of 99, had brought up his third Test hundred. Towhid Hridoy, returning to the crease after retiring hurt on the opening day, lasted only two deliveries before a poorly judged shot against Bishop resulted in his stumps being disturbed.

Warrican then breached Mehidy Hasan Miraz's defence with a delivery that turned through his attempted block. Shamar Joseph joined the wicket-taking act by removing Nayeem Hasan and Mahmudul Hasan in quick succession, leaving Bangladesh's lower order exposed. Warrican wrapped up the innings by dismissing Taijul Islam and Shoriful Islam off consecutive deliveries, completing a five-wicket haul of 5 for 53. Bishop's contribution of two wickets made the left-arm spin pairing account for seven Bangladesh wickets.

After a fine bowling effort, West Indies began their response with some early boundaries but were also fortunate to survive a couple of opportunities. John Campbell was put down twice, with Nayeem Hasan failing to hold a catch at point when the opener was on 5, before Shoriful Islam missed a return chance at 22.

Bangladesh eventually found a breakthrough through Hasan Mahmud, whose delivery moved away from Brandon King. Substitute wicketkeeper Jaker Ali completed the dismissal, giving the hosts some encouragement after the early reprieves. Campbell, however, continued to score freely, looking to drive whenever the opportunity presented itself. Tagenarine Chanderpaul provided support at the other end, finding the boundary twice early in his innings. The pair gradually established themselves, with Campbell taking the attack to Mehidy by striking him for a six and a four in successive deliveries.

Bad light interrupted the second session shortly afterwards, delaying West Indies' progress. The visitors resumed after the rain break in the final session, with Campbell and Chanderpaul having put together 61 runs for the second wicket and begun to steady the innings.

Mehidy broke the partnership with a delivery that drew an outside edge from Campbell, but the dismissal owed much to an outstanding effort at slip. Najmul Hossain Shanto reacted sharply, diving to his left to complete a spectacular catch and remove the set opener.

Taijul then turned the momentum further in Bangladesh's favour with two wickets in the same over. Mominul Haque produced a sharp piece of fielding at silly mid-off to intercept Kavem Hodge's defensive stroke, while Amir Jangoo's attempt to attack ended with a catch at deep square-leg, where Tanzid Hasan made no mistake.

West Indies had slumped from 90 for 1 to 97 for 4, undoing much of the work done by their top order. Chanderpaul and Justin Greaves prevented further damage, negotiating the remaining period without being separated. Chanderpaul finished unbeaten on 43, having struck six fours, while Greaves was 15 not out off 22 deliveries.

With the pair adding 31 runs for the fifth wicket, West Indies reached 134 for 4 before the umpires called off play at around 4:35 pm local time. The visitors trail by 138 runs, with Bangladesh having clawed their way back after a difficult morning, although West Indies remain well positioned following the collapse of the hosts' innings.

Brief scores: Bangladesh 272 (Shadman Islam 105; Jomel Warrican 5-53) lead West Indies 134/4 (John Campbell 54, Tagenarine Chanderpaul 43*; Taijul Islam 2-44) by 138 runs
