Hull KR are waiting to hear from Catalans Dragons about whether the French club will be taking a game on the road in 2027.

Catalans are planning to redevelop their Stade Gilbert Brutus stadium next season and that has opened the door for the French club to take a Super League fixture or two elsewhere next season.

The Dragons took a game to Paris this year to celebrate their 20th anniversary with Wigan Warriors being the opponents and the Cherry and Whites were involved once more when Catalans played at Camp Nou back in 2019.

Something similar has been spoken about for 2027 and KR have agreed to be the visitors this time around if the French club decide to go ahead with it once more.

Planning is still in its infancy, of course, but KR, who would expect to have some say over a venue, expect to hear something concrete either way in the coming weeks, before the fixtures are released next month.

"It's very much with Catalans," Lakin told Hull Live. "There's been no discussion about Barcelona internally so we can squash that one, but they are looking to develop their stadium next year and if so then we are looking to co-ordinate a game on the road whilst some of their of their work is being done.

"That decision would need to come before the fixtures so we can find a good slot hopefully in the summer where we could do that.

"We're at the behest of the home team, it'll be down to them to choose to take a game on tour and at the moment they have yet to decide that.

"If they did we would be the club. We've agreed that we would be the club, it's just whether they choose to go on tour or not.

"We would have some say [on a venue], what we would want to do is mutually fill the stadium or try our very best. Warrington and Wigan with Dublin, they worked together really hard on that to achieve what they have and it would be a collaboration between ourselves and Catalans."

It means Super League will be played across a minimum of four different countries next year, with Dublin and Las Vegas already being added to the calendar. Rovers experienced the latter last year of course and while it didn't go too well for them at the Allegiant Stadium, the club are open to the idea of experiencing something similar down the line.

"Definitely, we've always been pretty keen to do that," Lakin added when asked if he'd be open to being involved in something similar again. "We did Amsterdam a couple of years ago and obviously Vegas. Yeah, we would like to continue to look to explore opportunities.

"I think the big thing for us this year in 2027 and I've spoken to Nathan about this quite a lot. I'm personally keen for us as a club to just get back to the grind of a regular season. We've got the squad, we just need to get into the season.

"We've got no World Club Challenge, no Vegas, we're not going to Dublin, we have the opportunity to focus on our fixtures and create momentum in our season. I think that's more important than anything for us in '27."
