Barry Ferguson has made a positive revelation about Dujon Sterling and the impact he’s had at Rangers this season.
Sterling has stepped up under Derek McInnes and proven to be more than an able replacement for James Tavernier.
While his goals and assists numbers are not as high as Tavernier’s were, he has become one of the first names on the team sheet due to his solid performances at right-back.

What kind of reception do you expect Derek McInnes to get during the Hearts vs Rangers game? It's the first time McInnes is returning to Tynecastle…
Ferguson has revealed that people are now telling him that they have been impressed by Sterling’s performances, something that was not happening earlier. There were praises for the likes of Ryan Naderi, Kevin Kelsy, Minsu Kim, Nicolas Raskin, Dan Neil, and Olwethu Makhanya, but not for the English defender.
The former Rangers manager believes that the 26-year-old deserves every bit of praise that is coming his way. Sterling seems to be happy with life at Ibrox, given his role in the first team, and the club are not understood to be fussed about his contractual situation either.
Ferguson told Five Stars VIP: “Everybody’s talking about the two boys up top, rightly so. Talking about Kim Minsu, rightly so. Raskin, Dan Neil, Makhanya, great.
“Now I’m starting to hear people saying Dujon’s playing really well, and I’m delighted for him because he deserves it.”
Rangers News understands that both parties are happy with each other, but talks over a new contract are not expected to open imminently. The right-back has over a year and a half left on his current deal, and an extension is likely to be discussed towards the end of the season.
It is important that the board make their decisions quickly as they will risk losing a player of Sterling’s calibre on a free transfer. Previous regimes have failed to cash in on assets when they were at their peak, and that has resulted in poor performances on the field of play.
If Sterling does remain fit until the final few months of the season, the Light Blues are likely to approach his representatives over contract talks.
