Cowboys rally for 27-23 win over Colts

Caleb Downs’ first career interception allowed the Cowboys to escape with a 27-23 win over the Colts on Sunday.

The Colts tied the Cowboys 20-20 on Spencer Shrader’s 59-yard field goal with 5:56 remaining. The Cowboys tried to regain the lead, but Brandon Aubrey’s 50-yard attempt was no good with 3:30 left.

Aubrey’s miss allowed Shrader to give the Colts a 23-20 lead with 1:37 left with a 50-yard field goal.

The Cowboys then drove 65 yards in only four plays, with Ryan Flournoy catching a 46-yard pass to help set up Javonte Williams’ 1-yard touchdown run with 1:08 remaining. The Colts appeared to let Williams score, so they would get the ball back.

The Colts got only as close as their own 26, though, before an intentional grounding call followed by Daniels’ interception to Downs to end it.

The Cowboys are 4-5 and the Colts are 2-7, with decisions to make about the futures of Jones, Jonathan Taylor and Josh Downs as the trade deadline approaches Tuesday.

The Cowboys outgained the Colts 508 to 271. But CeeDee Lamb lost a red-zone fumble on one of the craziest plays of the season; Dak Prescott lost a fumble that led to a 19-yard Colts’ touchdown drive; and the Cowboys had 14 penalties for 153 yards, including a 15-yarder on DeMarvion Overshown, who is inactive but came onto the field for a celebration.

Prescott was 21-of-34 for 335 yards and two touchdowns, with Lamb catching 10 for 195 yards and a touchdown. The Cowboys played without No. 2 wide receiver George Pickens, who was inactive with a hamstring injury.

Javonte Williams rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, and Tyler Goodson had 12 carries for 77 yards.

Jones was 20-of-34 for 180 yards with a touchdown and an interception in what might have been his final game as a Colt. Taylor had 13 carries for 46 yards and lost a fumble. Ashton Dulin had a 55-yard touchdown.

Josh Downs, Caleb’s brother, had three catches for 24 yards.
