Slough Town appoint Steve McKimm as club's new manager

McKimm arrives at Arbour Park with extensive experience across the non-league game and a proven record of achieving promotion.

The 51-year-old began his managerial career at Tonbridge Angels in 2014, spending eight years in charge and guiding the club to promotion to the National League South in 2019. During his time at the club, he also led Tonbridge to the FA Cup First Round and the FA Trophy Fifth Round.

He subsequently managed Carshalton Athletic before taking charge of Cray Valley Paper Mills in 2023.

His first season with the Millers proved particularly successful, as he guided the club to the Isthmian League South East Division title with 95 points, losing just one league match. Cray Valley also enjoyed a memorable FA Cup run, securing a 1-1 draw away to League One Charlton Athletic before narrowly losing the replay.

McKimm led Cray Valley to a fourth-place finish and a place in the Isthmian Premier Division play-offs in 2024/25, before departing the club earlier this year.

He will be joined at Slough Town by Barry Moore, who has worked alongside McKimm for many years, including during their successful spells at Tonbridge Angels, Carshalton Athletic and Cray Valley Paper Mills.

Mark Watson also joins the management team as First Team Coach, having worked closely with McKimm and Moore at Cray Valley.

The trio's previous time together at Cray Valley saw the club enjoy one of the most successful periods in its history, including their run to the FA Cup First Round and the memorable draw at Charlton Athletic.

McKimm also brings considerable experience as a player, having represented the likes of Margate, Hendon, Dulwich Hamlet, Farnborough Town, Hayes, Kingstonian, Gravesend & Northfleet and Sutton United. He made almost 170 appearances for Gravesend & Northfleet (now Ebbsfleet United) and also served as captain of Margate.

Speaking about the appointment, Slough Town CEO Ashley Smith said: “I am delighted to welcome Steve as our new men’s first-team manager, alongside Barry and Mark. Throughout this process, Steve showed total professionalism and a real passion for the challenge ahead.

“My sincere thanks to Johnny, Ryan, and Henry for leading the squad so brilliantly in recent weeks. Their efforts have undeniably strengthened the group.

“I know the Rebels will bring the noise on Saturday against Dorking Wanderers to start this new era together.”

McKimm said: “I’m very happy to be here as the manager of Slough Town FC.

“We’re not in the best position at the moment, but with the hard work from staff, the players and the backing of the fantastic support base the Club has, we are determined to turn it around.”
