SV Elversberg is to date, one of the smallest clubs ever to play in the Bundesliga and celebrated their first ever Bundesliga match this year. However, after a historic promotion, SV Elversberg come back from a devastating 4-0 defeat against Leipzig in Matchday 7 and an elimination from the DFB-Cup. The newly promoted team sit just below Mainz on the league table due to a goal difference of six goals though both teams have a total of 10 points.

Mainz 05, who currently sit at 7th place on the league table, lost their last match to Werder but have won two out of five of their last games. The team have an unbeaten away streak so far this season and look to preserve this at the Waldstadion an der Kaiserlinde.
