A new update suggests WWE’s John Cena Classic might go head-to-head with AEW Worlds End.

The former 17-time WWE Champion announced the John Cena Classic during his special appearance at Backlash in May. Earlier reports indicated that the tournament could take place in December to coincide with the first anniversary of the legend’s retirement.

Cena himself confirmed later that the tournament will take place in December. However, he didn’t reveal a specific date, though reports noted it could be on December 12, the same day as Wrestlepalooza in Perth, Australia.

WWE Reportedly Considering Two December Dates For John Cena Classic

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE could be looking at two dates for the John Cena Classic. The report noted that a source couldn’t confirm whether the tournament would take place on December 12 in the U.S. after Wrestlepalooza in Perth, Australia. The source also couldn’t confirm whether it would take place the following weekend on December 19.

If WWE chooses December 19, the John Cena Classic would go head-to-head with AEW’s Worlds End pay-per-view. AAA’s Guerra De Titanes event also takes place later that same evening.

One WWE source noted Saturday, December 5, isn’t a viable option, saying the promotion wouldn’t want to host major events on three consecutive weekends.
