Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TMRW Sports teams up with the NFL to launch brand new sports league

The creative minds behind the popular simulator golf league TGL have launched a new flag football league in collaboration with the NFL.

TMRW Sports, the venture started by golf icons Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy – as well as former NBC Sports executive Mike McCarley, has officially revealed the name for their new league: Premier Flag Football (PFF).

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the league is set for a launch in the summer of 2027 – exactly one year before flag football is played as an event at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

While the NFL announced the adoption of the league months ago, the name and logo for the PFF was revealed on Monday. The league's identity reveal added that there will be divisions for both men and women.

In addition, the league says stadium developer Populous is designing their 'inaugural stadium, which will be the first purpose-built stadium for flag football.'

'Flag football is exploding in popularity, and Premier Flag is establishing itself as the destination for the world’s top women and men competing at the highest level of the sport,' read a statement from Brendan Donohue, TMRW Sports' president of flag football.

'The Premier Flag brand represents where flag football is headed -- elite, global and accessible -- while setting a professional standard for the sport’s growing ecosystem.

'When we launch next summer, fans will have the opportunity to see these amazing athletes perform at their best, supported by Premier Flag’s world-class training, strength and conditioning, nutrition and coaching programs.'

The NFL's Senior Vice President of Global Flag Football, Brian Flinn, also said: 'Premier Flag represents an exciting step forward in the continued evolution of flag football.

'Together with TMRW Sports, we're building a global platform to showcase the world's top flag football players and to engage fans in a premium experience.'

Flinn added that the league's first event will be a Premier Flag Showcase to be held in Los Angeles during Super Bowl LXI.

The league announced the venture this past February, revealing TMRW Sports as their partner after a competitive bid process featuring 'roughly a dozen other groups,' according to Sportico.

Flag football has grown in popularity in recent years. Not only have parents of boys and young men turned to the variant of the game for its lowered risk of injury, but girls and young women have picked up the sport as well.

Data from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association revealed participation in flag football grew 15 percent from 2019 to 2024.
