Barcelona are reportedly keeping a close eye on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall as uncertainty grows over his role in Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
The Swedish international has faced increased competition for minutes following Tottenham’s summer recruitment, while Barcelona and Napoli are understood to be monitoring his situation.
According to TEAMtalk, Barcelona are among the clubs interested in Bergvall, with Napoli also linked with the 20-year-old midfielder.
Bergvall has started only twice in the Premier League this season, with the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes increasing competition in midfield. Despite signing a new long-term contract with Spurs recently, his limited league starts could attract further attention from potential suitors.
Barcelona have previously been linked with the Swedish talent, who is highly regarded for his technical ability and potential to develop into a top-level midfielder.
However, Tottenham are in a strong position to retain him following his contract extension, and there is no confirmation that Barcelona have submitted an offer.
Tottenham are also waiting to discover the extent of James Maddison’s latest injury after the midfielder was forced off during the 2-0 victory over Chelsea.
Maddison had only recently returned to the starting line-up after a lengthy absence, making the setback a concern for De Zerbi.
Speaking after the match, the Tottenham manager said: “I hope he didn’t feel a big problem, but we have to make a medical check.”
He added: “I hope it’s not a big problem because he’s a special player for us. We need him.”
Maddison’s availability could influence Tottenham’s midfield options in the coming weeks, although Bergvall’s own recovery from a knee issue is also a factor.
