The Proteas reached 202-5 at lunch on day four of the deciding Test against Australia at Newlands, extending their lead to 102 runs.

The Proteas resumed on 140-4, leading by just 40 runs after losing captain Temba Bavuma for 35 late on Thursday.

Matthew Breetzke made 43 off 121 balls, striking five fours before being caught by Mitchell Starc off Pat Cummins. His dismissal left South Africa on 181-5.

Ryan Rickelton remained unbeaten on 39 off 83 deliveries, alongside Wiaan Mulder on five off 30, as the pair negotiated the closing stages of the morning session without further damage.

With the second new ball available in five overs, Australia will fancy their chances of wrapping up the innings quickly. South Africa, meanwhile, will look to build a defendable target with the series level at 1-1.
