Baker Mayfield's best play Sunday was a block.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback went 0 for 3 through the air in a driving rain at Raymond James Stadium. That's zero completions and minus-2 net passing yards after a sack. The Bucs shut out the Atlanta Falcons 16-0 anyway, running for a franchise-record 324 yards. Bucky Irving had 170 of them and Kenneth Gainwell had 140.
Nobody had won an NFL game without completing a pass since the 1974 Buffalo Bills.
"If I'm not gonna throw the ball, I have to get active somehow," Mayfield said.
Next up is Soldier Field in November.
The Chicago Bears are going for a prime-time hat trick. They beat the New England Patriots 30-24 on a Thursday night. Then they flew to Seattle and beat the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks 34-17 on Monday night. No team had ever beaten both of the previous season's Super Bowl teams in back-to-back weeks.
Caleb Williams completed 24 of 34 passes for 247 yards against one of the league's stingiest defenses. Jeffery Simmons, a Bear for all of four days after a trade with the Tennessee Titans, had a sack on the opening drive.
Chicago is 6-2 for the first time since 2012.
The Buccaneers have won three of four. They also got a full week of rest. The Bears got six days after a cross-country flight Monday night.
Here's what to know about this week's Buccaneers vs. Bears game.
The game kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 8, at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The Bears are 6.5-point favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook. The over/under is 45.5. Early money has gone Tampa Bay's way, and BetMGM moved the Bucs to 5.5-point underdogs before the Bears even played Monday night.
The game is on NBC. It's "Sunday Night Football," so everyone in the country gets the same broadcast, with no regional coverage maps to sort through.
Cord-cutters can stream the game on NBC's streaming service, Peacock.
Fubo also carries NBC, it also offers a free trial.
NFL+, the league's own streaming service, will carry the game on phones and tablets.
The Buccaneers are 3-5 entering Week 9, in second place in the NFC South, a half-game behind the Carolina Panthers.
The Bears are 6-2 entering Week 9, in second place in the NFC North, a half-game behind the 6-1 Minnesota Vikings.
