‘Still Didn’t Take Accountability,’ ‘The So-Called Apology Is Insincere’ — NFL Fans React to Marshawn Lynch Slamming Michael Robinson’s Jalen Hurts Commentary

With the Philadelphia Eagles sitting at 2-4 and their Super Bowl-winning quarterback, Jalen Hurts, sidelined by blood clots, NFL Network analyst Michael Robinson apologized on Monday night for comments he made on air about Hurts four days earlier, remarks that had left him heavily criticized online.

Yet more than a week after the original segment, the apology hasn’t closed the book for everyone. On Friday and Saturday, fans were still weighing in, with some invoking his podcast co-host, Marshawn Lynch, by his Beast Mode nickname and others taking direct aim at Robinson and his apology.

Michael Robinson’s Remarks and the Apology Fans Keep Answering

Robinson made the comments on NFL Network on Thursday, Oct. 15, after the Eagles ruled Hurts out of their Week 6 game against Carolina because of a blood clot in his left calf. He started with the Eagles: “It looked like they were trying to pin the outcome of this season on Jalen Hurts just so that they could have an excuse later on to move on from Jalen Hurts.”

He then turned to Hurts himself: “I’m not saying I know nothing, guys. But if I’m just playing devil’s advocate here, and I’m thinking that way, if I’m Jalen Hurts — or anybody in Jalen Hurts’ camp — I’m saying, ‘Well if everybody’s hurt, I’m hurt, too.’ To me, it looked like Jalen is kind of getting himself out of the fray so that this lost season … he’s pulling himself out so that this doesn’t look like it’s on me.”

Hurts had initially been diagnosed with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis before testing found deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, and the Eagles’ statement on his condition laid out what that means for him:

“His treatment should only involve anticoagulation (i.e. ‘blood thinners’). … During this time, he will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities, including football. Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery. … In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition.”

Robinson’s apology came a day after the Eagles lost 25-14 at home to the Carolina Panthers with Tanner McKee at quarterback, and it read in part: “I want to sincerely apologize to Jalen Hurts, his family, the Philadelphia Eagles organization and fan base for my comments last Thursday. They were unfounded and I never should’ve speculated on a health issue of a player nor his commitment to his team.”

Lynch and Robinson had discussed Hurts and the Eagles previously, including on a Sept. 30 episode after Philadelphia’s 27-7 loss to Chicago. But after Robinson’s Oct. 15 NFL Network remarks drew backlash, the pair revisited the subject on a new episode of “Da Get Got Pod” this week.

During that discussion, Lynch pushed back as Robinson explained what he had meant by his earlier comments, to which the latter replied, “I shouldn’t have spoken about Jalen Hurts’ injury… I initially say, just to play devil’s advocate, if I’m Jalen Hurts, or if I’m anybody in his camp, I’m looking around, I see I ain’t got four running backs, three out of my five offensive linemen hurt… ‘The coach losing games and I’m getting blamed for it… Hell, I’m hurt too!’”

Lynch didn’t buy that and said, “Mike, you sound like you’re trying to clean up some [expletive] right now.” Lynch then reminded Robinson he often talks down about the Eagles, and that their fans won’t take too kindly to his presence in their city: “Philly fans are ruthless [expletive]. They gon’ beat your [expletive]!”

Fans agreed with Lynch and continued to call out Robinson for his stance on Hurts.

“This [expletive] trying to clean up what he said instead of being honest,” said one fan.

Another fan added, “He still didn’t take accountability for the LIES HE TOLD ABOUT JALEN [expletive]!!!!”

The criticism continued, as one user on X wrote, “Keep Jalen Hurts’ name out of your damn mouth!”

One fan was quite upset with Robinson and said, “Disingenuous, arrogant, pompous and deceitful. The so-called apology is insincere. [expletive] stand on your [expletive]. You deserve more vitriol than you received. And all that foul language is despicable.”

Others praised Lynch’s stance, with one fan saying, “Beast Mode is good with me for life,” and another adding, “Beast Mode always tells him the truth.”

The reaction reflected a broader frustration with Robinson’s original comments. For many fans, the issue was not simply that his read on Hurts turned out to be wrong, but that he had speculated publicly about the quarterback’s health and commitment without knowing the full medical picture.

His apology addressed that mistake directly, but the continued criticism shows that some fans felt the explanation came too late or did not go far enough. Lynch’s pushback resonated with those viewers because it challenged Robinson in real time and reinforced the idea that Hurts’ situation should not have been treated as fodder for speculation.

Hurts, who has 933 passing yards, eight touchdown passes, and three interceptions this season, hasn’t played since the Eagles’ 19-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Oct. 11.

Philadelphia, second in the NFC East, hosts the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday at 8:15 p.m. ET in Week 7.
