Dundee 2 Rangers 2 (Fink, Jones; Bouanani, Raskin)

It's known as the City of Discovery, and Derek McInnes now knows a lot more about his side and their title credentials after their trip to Dundee.

The boss saw his side gift the Dark Blues two goals at Dens Park as they failed to emphasise their title credentials and return to top spot, with their seven-game winning run coming to a screeching halt.

Bradley Fink took advantage of slack defending to open the scoring, before Badredine Bouanani lashed the Light Blues level against the run of play before the break.

Nico Raskin put the Glasgow giants in front with a thunderbolt from 30 yards, before more slack play allowed Callum Jones to level.

The first clear chance of the game fell to Min-su Kim, as he saw his volleyed shot bounce off the hand of Ryan Astley. The Dundee defender was cleared by the referee and VAR after blocking the drive, as the effort from the Rangers man had his his knee first after bouncing off the turf.

But the hosts were undeterred early on, as some neat play on the edge of the box allowed Ashley Hay to tee up Alan Forrest of the edge of the box - but Ivor Pandur was quick to save the snapshot.

On his first start for the club, Bouanani look to have teed up the opener for Djeidi Gassama, as he weaved his way through the dark blue defence - but his cross across the six-yard box was frantically cleared.

At the other end, Hay would go close to the opener as he watched his powerful header from a corner cannon off of Ivor Pandur's crossbar.

Bouanani was at it again as a bursting run down the flank allowed him to play a neat pass to Dujon Sterling. He swivelled to find Dan Neil on the edge of the box in space, but the skipper saw a poor effort drift by the post.

But the home side would take a deserved lead after sloppy defending from Sterling saw him toe the ball into the path of Wycombe loanee Fink, who calmly rounded Pandur before finding the bottom corner.

With the visitors struggling,Bouanani was allowed a couple of cracks at goal before rifling a thunderous effort into the top corner before the break.

After a ropey first half, Rangers puled the pressure came almost instantly from the away side as Kim saw his effort narrowly tipped by the post by Owen Goodman from the edge of the box, before the South Korea cap slipped through Bouanani one-on-one for his second - but the Rangers winger was denied.

Rangers couldn't be denied a second as Raskin unleashed a stunning strike from range to put his side in front.

However, they didn't hold the advantage for long, as Dan Neil was caught on the ball - and Jones robbed the last man before curling the ball beyond Pandur.

Rangers rolled the dice with a series of late corners and snapshots - and the best chance fell to substitute Findlay Curtis. A swift counter attack saw Goodman misjudge the long ball, and the Scotland cap saw his chip cleared off the line.

Now Rangers face an uncomfortable afternoon on Sunday as Celtic and Hearts battle it out at Celtic Park - after conceding top spot under the Dens Park spotlight.

They have given their boss plenty to ponder, so here is Record Sport's talking points from the game.

No Europe, no party?

After stumbling in the Europa and Conference League playoff rounds, Rangers had a free week to prepare for this game. They were the only title contender with this luxury with Celtic being smashed in Lisbon by Benfica in the Europa, while Hearts suffered late heartbreak in the Conference as Nordsjælland took a point from Tynecastle. So, did it REALLY benefit Rangers?

Martin O'Neill said only last week the lack of games had handed Rangers an advantage in the battle, but in truth it was the hosts that flew out of the traps - as the visitors had to grow into the game after a sluggish opening half, withBouanani's strike required to jolt the side into life just before the break. It was a better second period, but at this stage the theory on European football has not been proven.

Tough at the top

The pressure was on to throw down the gauntlet to Celtic and Hearts ahead of their clash on Sunday, and move back to the summit. And while they struggled at times, Ryan Naderi struggled as the lone frontman with Kevin Kelsy on the bench. The German has netted three goals in his last two games as he heading to Tayside, but was having trouble holding the ball up and link up play on his own in attack. Looked a frustrated figure throughout the 90 minutes.

Crack in the foundation

Derek McInnes has build Rangers winning run on a solid defensive unit - with Olwethu Makhanya, Emmanuel Fernandez, James Penrice and Dujon Sterling proving tough for rivals to break down, with Dan Neil and Nico Raskin anchoring the midfield. But the unit fell apart in Dundee. The hosts were gifted their opener by some slack play as Sterling failed to deal with Hay and a short pass to Pandur was nabbed by Fink. McInnes was clearly furious on the touchline, and he wouldn't have been any happier with dithering Neil caught on the ball by Jones - before he smashed the ball into the net.

Big chance for Bouanani

A deadline day arrival on loan from Stuttgart, the Algerian was made to wait for his first start for his new club - having managed just four appearances for the club so far, all coming off the bench. And, he made sure to take his chance. The 21-year-old came into the side to replace Kevin Kelsy, with Minsu Kim pushed into a more central role. He looked lively throughout the game and pinged balls in from the right at every possible opportunity. A very direct player who will have impressed McInnes with his overall display and goal. A positive for the boss on a tough night.

The real Dee-al

When he was appointed as Dundee boss, Steven Pressley faced a major backlash. Now, he has outlasted several of his rival Premiership bosses - and is building something positive at Dens Park. The Dark Blues went into this weekend's fixture card sitting in the dizzying heights of fourth spot with back to back wins to their name, as they navigate an injury crisis.

In front of the Sky cameras, they showed exactly why Scottish football should be paying attention as Dee harried and hassled Rangers throughout the game - as well as playing some neat football. A deserved point in the end.

They couldn't survive Rangers second half onslaught completely unscathed and will be disappointed to have not taken a more convincing lead into half time.
