Premier League boss challenges board to sack him amid deeper problems at club

Oliver Glasner has insisted that a new manager at Nottingham Forest will not guarantee improvement.

Forest were beaten 2-0 by Brentford on Saturday and have fallen into the Premier League relegation zone with nine games played.

They also have just one win from ten in all competitions since Glasner joined as head coach in July.

The former Crystal Palace boss is the fifth name to take the job in less than three years after Steve Cooper was sacked in December 2023.

Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vitor Pereira preceded Glasner, who was very transparent on the club's struggles.

Speaking to the media after the loss at Brentford, he was asked if he has the freedom to make the changes he wants at Forest.

Glasner insists Forest sack won't bring change

"There is no other way," he declared. "And if I don't have the freedom, they have to sack me. That's it."

And when speaking to talkSPORT, Glasner explained how Forest's problems run deeper than whoever is in charge.

"The reality is we lost four of our last five games, and that means for me it's time also to speak very honestly about it. It's time to change things because otherwise things will happen again

"We have to change things, I have to change a few things and I will definitely change a few things."

Glasner added: "I feel now maybe I was a little bit too patient and made a little bit too many compromises on a few things. And this is what I will definitely change.

"Then it's up to the players if they buy in, I think then we can get the turnaround and if not, the sixth manager will follow."

On whether he is feeling the pressure from Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, Glasner stated: "No, I don't have pressure, I think nobody needs to have pity with the manager.

"You get sacked, you go home with your family and, if you want, you can start a job within two weeks. But the players, the staff, they have to work and continue in the same situation like last year.

"If there have been four managers and things didn't really change and now it's the fifth one and things don't really change, I think it's deeper than changing the manager.

"But again, I have no concerns at all about my position.

"I came to Nottingham Forest to help the club establish in the top half of the Premier League, helping the owner to get his vision to reality, and for this we have to change things 100 percent, otherwise it's impossible."

Having his final say on the result to talkSPORT, Glasner remarked: "We want to be successful, but again, we need to change a few things.

"And let's say maybe the most obvious one is we are outrun by the opposition in every single game, this is number one. We're losing duels, I think today it was 61 per cent for Brentford in ground duels.

"That's the foundation, the basics of everything. Then we can talk about tactics, how we're playing looks nice. But in the important areas, you need to win the duels."

Forest are 19th and joined by Palace and Sunderland in the relegation zone, although Manchester United are only a point above them after their 2-0 loss to Chelsea.

They host leaders Manchester City at the City Ground next Saturday before the November international break.
