Brentford v Liverpool team news: Schade and Schuster injury update

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews has provided a fitness update on Kevin Schade and Jannik Schuster ahead of Saturday's Premier League game against Liverpool at Gtech Community Stadium (3pm kick-off BST).

Liverpool team news hero

Centre-back Schuster (ankle) was withdrawn at the interval of last weekend's 2-2 draw at Aston Villa, while Germany international Schade (shoulder) was forced off during the second half.

“Jannik and Kev have been on the grass this week and we’ll see what tomorrow brings in terms of how much they can do,” Andrews began.

“They are different types of injuries. This week, we’ve had to navigate through a few issues. Those two are some of those who are making their way back from injury. Overall, we’re in a really good place.”

Sepp van den Berg, who has not played this term due to a groin injury, was named on the bench at Villa Park, while Mikkel Damsgaard and Nathan Collins (calf) were not included in the matchday squad.

“Closer, is the case with all of those players you just mentioned,” the Bees' head coach continued. “They’re coming back from different injuries and different lengths of injuries.

“Dams is obviously the shortest of all of them. The one he picked up away with Denmark was from a pretty naughty tackle.”

Young striker Kaye Furo (metatarsal) remains sidelined after undergoing surgery last month, while Josh Dasilva (hamstring) is yet to feature in 2026/27.

Mamadou Sangare

Away from injury updates, Andrews was also asked about Mamadou Sangaré, who has come off the bench in the Bees' last two outings, and forward Dango Ouattara.

“It’s no real reflection on him, that he came out of the starting team. We have got a really good squad and really good options,” Andrews said on Sangaré.

“Mamadou has been outstanding since he’s come in. I think everyone knows that with the accolades and plaudits he’s had about the start to his Premier League season and how he came in during pre-season and lit it up.

“He’s so dynamic in the way he plays and he’s such an infectious player. That hasn’t changed. Mamadou will play a lot more games and a lot more minutes for us.

“It’s difficult picking the team and the main message to the group is that it’s going to be a long season. We’ve got games coming where the squad will get really tested. If we want to achieve a really special season, we’re going to need everybody.”

On Ouattara, Andrews continued: “Dango is a match-winner for us. He’s such a talent and is such a vital part of our team and squad. He provides something different that other players don’t quite possess; he’s got certain qualities that I love.

“He had an illness while he was away with Burkina Faso and wasn’t able to feature for them. That hit him a bit.

“He’s a player I love working with. I’ve got no concerns about Dango. He’ll play plenty of games for us and prove to be a match-winner for us again pretty soon.”
