Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez is in the twilight of his career as a professional boxer, as the fighter himself has acknowledged that he has only a few bouts left before retirement, which will be a special moment for him, his family, and Mexican sports, since he is one of the most outstanding pugilists in the history of our country.

Throughout his career, this Mexican boxer achieved important victories that placed him among the world elite of this sport, thus bringing honor to the name of Mexico, which has always stood out in boxing with historic fighters such as Julio César Chávez, among others.

However, Canelo knows that his career is nearing its end, but he also knows that he will leave an important legacy in this sport.

“We have to be realistic, if it were up to me it would never be enough, but I think 4-5 more fights is enough, I’ve already done too much in boxing, I did more than I ever imagined one day and more than I ever dreamed of one day, this is a plus for my career,” said the Mexican boxer

Canelo Álvarez wants to retire at Estadio Banorte

Recently, Canelo Álvarez said that he wants his last fight to be at Estadio Banorte, since it is a legendary venue for Mexican sports, having hosted three World Cups, in addition to being the setting for one of Julio César Chávez’s most memorable fights.

“I want my last fight to be in Mexico, and I pictured myself fighting at Estadio Azteca (Banorte),” said the Mexican boxer, who stated that he has already had talks with Emilio Azcárraga Jean for this event, which still has no date but is expected to happen soon.

“We got in touch, had a Zoom, and saw the possibility of doing a fight in the future, and yes, I do see myself fighting there,” Canelo explained about the talks he has had with Azcárraga Jean.

Canelo Álvarez acknowledges that he still has the desire to fight and physically could do so, according to the tests he has undergone, but he also assures that he has other goals.

“I feel very good, I could fight many more based on how I feel and how my body is, I’ve had many tests done, and with how my body is, I could keep fighting, but I also have other goals outside of boxing. I’ve achieved everything; from there on up I don’t think there’s much more that can be done. I’m still enjoying the process, we go fight by fight,” he concluded.
