Liverpool trying to convince Mason Greenwood to return to England, prepared to offer €75m

Liverpool are trying to sign former Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood in a shock move, as per reports.

Greenwood has established himself as one of Ligue 1’s most prolific players after moving to Olympique de Marseille from United in a deal worth £26.6 million last summer.

The 23-year-old has notched 18 league goals and is the second-highest goalscorer in France’s top flight, only behind Paris Saint-Germain talisman Ousmane Dembele, who is on 21.

Greenwood has impressed with two-footedness, ball-striking, and movement in the penalty area under Roberto De Zerbi.

However, his work rate has left a lot to be desired, leading to Marseille fans sending him a warning ahead of Saturday’s clash against Montpellier.

The Englishman responded in style, scoring a brace in his side’s 5-1 win but his performance has done little to put an end to the suggestions of his exit from Orange Vélodrome.

Liverpool want to sign Mason Greenwood

According to Fichajes, Liverpool have set their sights on Greenwood and are willing to “launch a multi-million-dollar offensive” to make him a key figure of their attack.

The Reds are expected to push Darwin Nunez away from Anfield this summer and look for a new forward.

The Spanish outlet claim Liverpool admire Greenwood’s skill sets and would be willing to pay between €75 and €80 million to secure his signature.

Any such deal would make him one of their most expensive signings ever and also invite some raised eyebrows over in Manchester as the Red Devils inserted a considerable sell-on clause into the deal that saw him move to the south of France.

It is added that the Merseyside outfit are already working on convincing the ex-United star to return to England this summer.

Considering Greenwood graduated from the academy of their fierce rivals and the controversial off-field reason behind his exit from Old Trafford, it is very unlikely Liverpool would add the player to their short-list. As such, it is best to take the claim with a pinch of salt.
