Luka Dončić put on another show Sunday night, torching the Toronto Raptors for 45 points in a 131-125 Los Angeles Lakers win at Crypto.com Arena. The Slovenian superstar controlled the game from the opening quarter, and his latest scoring explosion has NBA fans projecting him as MVP.

Luka Dončić’s 45-Point Outburst Against Toronto Raptors Leaves NBA Fans in Awe

With LeBron James no longer in the picture, Dončić is in his first season as the Lakers’ undisputed leader. So far, he is carrying the role with ease.

The six-time All-Star wasted little time setting the tone against the Raptors. He finished the first quarter with a game-high 16 points and 4 steals, giving the Lakers a major spark on both ends of the floor.

But the Lakers star was far from finished. Dončić ended the night with 45 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals and 1 block. Dončić shot 12-of-23 from the field, knocked down 8 of his 12 attempts from beyond the arc and converted all 13 free throws. He also finished with a plus-27 rating.

His performance placed him in a category of his own, with the NBA official X handle noting, “The 1st player in NBA history to record 45+ PTS, 15+ REB, 5+ AST, 5+ STL and 5+ 3PM in a game.”

Dončić’s latest takeover sent NBA fans into a frenzy. “The Luka MVP season might finally be amongst us,” one LeBron James fan page predicted.

Another fan echoed that sentiment, posting, “LUKA MAGIC MVP SEASON IS UPON USSSSSS.”

A Lakers fan page praised Dončić’s all-around performance against the Raptors, acknowledging, “Luka played his best game of the season on both ends.”

One Dončić supporter was even more direct for his MVP case: “MVP of this league, deal with it!!!”

Ball Don’t Stop also backed his growing MVP case, commenting, “Luka Doncic MVP campaign is well in the works.”

Sunday’s power-packed outing was also Dončić’s third 40-point performance in his last four games, showing just how dangerous the Lakers star has been so far in the 2026-27 season.

Dončić’s historic numbers have even put him in rare company, with ESPN Insights highlighting, “Luka Dončić is averaging 37.7 PPG this season, the 5th most in NBA history through 6 games and most since Michael Jordan in 1986-87. Luka has the most PPG by a Lakers player through 6 games, passing himself from last season.”

The win lifted the Lakers to 5-2, and the schedule offers no breather. They face Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Miami Heat on Monday on the second night of a back-to-back.

Dončić already has his recovery routine mapped out. Asked how he would prepare for the back-to-back, the 27-year-old kept it simple: “get rest, cold tub, massage, rest.” He will surely need every bit of it if he plans to keep putting up those monstrous numbers.
