Last season, Tom Bischof played just six minutes in one game against Borussia Dortmund and one minute in the other. With Der Klassiker approaching, the Bayern Munich midfielder is hoping things will be different this time around.
Bischof has good reason to feel more optimistic. After putting together a string of good performances, the 20-year-old is enjoying his football and making a case for a bigger role under the coaching staff. However, Bischof knows that earning minutes against Dortmund is ultimately out of his hands.
Asked what gives him hope of playing more this time, Bischof explained that the consistency of his performance could help bolster his case.
”What gives me hope is that I’ve now played three good games, been out on the pitch and simply enjoyed playing football. But ultimately, it’s not up to me whether I play; that’s the coach’s decision. I’ll be happy when Jo is back and am glad that Pavlo is back. I’m here as well, so the three of us are back together. And then everything works even better with all of us,” Bischof said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Bischof is referring to Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović, his colleagues in a very talented midfield group.
The competition for places will be fierce, but Bischof has made the most of his recent opportunities. Now comes the big test — can he turn that momentum into a meaningful role against Borussia Dortmund?
