Dundee held Rangers to a 2-2 draw at Dens Park on Saturday (17 October), thus bringing an abrupt end to their seven-game winning streak, with warning signs flashing from the first whistle.

While Bradley Fink fired Dundee ahead in the 37th minute, a nerve-wracking sequence just two minutes earlier laid bare the lack of composure inside the Ibrox backline. In the 35th minute, Rangers goalkeeper Ivor Pandur attempted to play out from the back, playing a risky pass straight into central midfield towards Minsu Kim.

Surrounded by Dundee shirts, Minsu was immediately pressed and dispossessed by Ryan Astley, allowing Ethan Hamilton to unleash a shot from outside of the box. Though the effort went wide off target, the danger was entirely self-inflicted.

Former Rangers star Richard Foster spots Ivor Pandur throws hands in the air after mistake

Analysing the footage on BBC Sportscene on Saturday, former Rangers full-back Richard Foster called out the goalkeeper’s decision-making and took issue with his body language immediately following the blunder.

Foster said: “The goalkeeper passing the ball straight into midfield; lucky to get away with it, and then he throws his hands up in the air as if it’s somebody else’s fault.”

Foster’s breakdown highlighted a key point of frustration for Rangers supporters. Rather than taking ownership of placing young Minsu under immense pressure, Pandur’s reaction – throwing his hands up in frustration – gestured blame elsewhere while his defence scrambled.

Unsettled by the let-off, Rangers failed to settle, and just two minutes later, Dundee capitalised on further defensive hesitation when Fink turned home the opener. Emmanuel Fernandez and Dujon Sterling were the guilty parties on that occasion.

While Derek McInnes‘ side fought hard to get the lead via Badredine Bouanani and Nicolas Raskin, further moments of defensive communication allowed Dundee to grab another goal, with Callum Jones capitalising on a mistake from Dan Neil.

Those moments of miscommunication and shifting blame, like Pandur’s 35th-minute pass, serve as crucial areas the Ibrox coaching staff must iron out.

While Pandur did not look comfortable with the ball at his feet, it is worth noting that the Croatia international saved four of the six shots that came his way.
