Bayern Munich CEO Max Eberl has confirmed Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany was discharged from hospital on Wednesday. The former City captain collapsed at Bayern's training ground last Friday while watching reserve team training. Kompany had been unwell prior to the incident, missing Bayern's pre-match press conference before the Champions League clash with Arsenal.

Kompany was taken to hospital where his condition was described as stable. Yesterday, the German club confirmed the head coach had left hospital. "Given the circumstances, he's doing well," Eberl told German broadcaster ARD. "He was discharged from the hospital today. That is the biggest and best news for all of us."

Eberl also confirmed that Kompany had been suffering from a meningeal irritation, which occurs in the brain's protective layers. It is seen as a warning sign for other conditions. Eberl stressed that Kompany will now go back home to rest.

When asked if there was a timeline for Kompany's return to the touchline, Eberl replied: "I am very confident that he will be back on the touchline, operating at 100 per cent, very soon." In the meantime, Kompany's assistant Aaron Danks, who he worked with at Anderlecht, has been running first-team operations.

"I explained to him that we would be having no football conversations," Danks said last week when asked if he had spoken to Kompany. "It was just checking in on his health and making sure he's okay. All the football operations are in our hands and we'll work together as a team to keep the club moving forward."

Kompany made 360 appearances for the Blues after joining from Hamburg in 2008. He went on to win the Premier League on four occasions, two FA Cups, four Carabao Cups and two Community Shields.

During his time at Burnley, Kompany was tipped to one day become City's head coach by Pep Guardiola. "He will be back sooner or later. His destiny to be manager of City is already written in the stars," Guardiola said in 2023. "It’s going to happen. I don’t know when, but it’s going to happen.

"It’s my feeling. Maybe I am wrong." Guardiola left City in the summer with Enzo Maresca chosen to replace the legendary boss.
