Aston Villa's resurgence under interim head coach Brian Sorensen continued as his side made it back-to-back Women's Super League wins with a 3-2 victory at Everton.

Sorensen was returning to Goodison Park for the first time since Everton sacked him in February, having been their longest-serving manager.

He became the first visiting boss to win there in the WSL this season, helped by Amalie Vangsgaard's double.

A habit for conceding late almost cost Villa, but they just about held off an Everton fightback having looked comfortable at 3-0 up with 20 minutes to play.

Noelle Maritz put Villa ahead inside five minutes, beating Everton goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan having been sent through by Vangsgaard.

Vangsgaard doubled the lead on the counter-attack, chipping Brosnan having shaken off Naomi Layzell with a clever turn.

Maritz and Vangsgaard combined again for Villa's third shortly after half-time, with Maritz given free rein on the left flank and able to square for Vangsgaard to poke in at the front post.

Everton, who have struggled in front of goal this season, toiled without joy again against Villa before coming to life and having 10 efforts at goal in the final 30 minutes.

Holly McNamara scored with 10 minutes to play, squeezing the ball in from close range for her first league goal of the season.

In the 90th minute, substitute Noemie Mouchon played a cross that was intended for McNamara and watched it instead curl into the back of the net to reduce Everton's deficit to one.

Villa held on though for their first league win against Everton since 2024, and they go seventh, leapfrogging the Toffees who sit eighth.
