The Pittsburgh Steelers have suffered yet another injury in their secondary, as cornerback Doneiko Slaughter did not practice on Wednesday with a hamstring injury.

Slaughter suffered the injury while covering a punt for the Steelers in the fourth quarter of their 16-10 win over the New Orleans Saints in Paris on Sunday.

Slaughter has played in all seven games for the Steelers so far this season, and has been a consistent contributor on special teams, where he has played a total of 63 snaps, working in five phases for special teams coordinator Danny Crossman: kick off return, kick coverage, punt return, punt coverage, and field goal block teams.

Slaughter has not been called on to play any defense, despite a number of injuries in the Pittsburgh secondary. Strong safety DeShon Elliott made his 2026 debut on Sunday, now fully recovered from a severe 2025 hamstring injury. Cornerback Jamel Dean missed one week with an ankle injury and Nickel back Jalen Ramsey has been playing through a fractured right wrist.

That rash of injuries prompted the Steelers to go out and find plenty of depth at the position. Veteran Sean Murphy-Bunting was active for his first game with the team on Sunday, but did not play against the Saints. Terell Smith, who is also on the active roster, and Darius Rush, who is on the practice squad, have yet to be activated.

The Steelers have also been playing without core special teamer Ben Skowronek, though Skowronek could be close to making his return. He made his first appearance at practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday after missing two game with a calf injury.

Slaughter will have two more practices to attempt to get back into action before the Steelers host the Cleveland Browns in Week 8 on Sunday.
