Minnesota Vikings only undefeated team left in NFL after Week 7

Heading into Week 6, three teams remained undefeated in the NFL: the Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers, and Kansas City Chiefs. After the 49ers and Chiefs lost in Week 7 and the Vikings won, Minnesota is now the league's only undefeated team.

It was only a matter of time before the 49ers lost a game with injuries on both sides of the ball. The most costly blow was wide receiver Mike Evans missing the Week 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Their defensive injuries also hurt them as they allowed Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. to throw three touchdown passes.

The Chiefs simply couldn't do anything against the Seattle Seahawks’ defense. They never scored a touchdown and managed only three points all game. Seattle never even allowed Kansas City to get into the red zone. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes finished with 165 passing yards and an interception. The defense held running back Kenneth Walker III to 36 rushing yards, his fewest of the season. Tight ends Noah Gray and Travis Kelce tied for the Chiefs' most receiving yards with 44.

For Minnesota, it is impressive to win the first six games of the season. However, they have had a relatively easy schedule. Their most impressive win was against the Green Bay Packers, who collapsed in the fourth quarter. They also defeated the Chicago Bears; quarterback Caleb Williams was injured in that game. Minnesota also has one-possession wins against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers without Baker Mayfield, the Miami Dolphins without De’Von Achane, and the Indianapolis Colts without Sauce Gardner.

Minnesota’s next four games are against teams with a winning record. They also face the Falcons and the Carolina Panthers, both highly competitive teams. The Vikings also have four division games left. Every team in the NFC North has a winning record, so their division games will be tough. In other words, Minnesota’s current success doesn't seem sustainable.
