Man United must boot out Martinez after he badly let his boss down with his total idiocy

The Manchester United manager needs a big break soon or the axe is inevitable after his side's 2-0 loss to Chelsea.

Well that was a predictable lunchtime self-induced disaster. Manchester United should have been ahead at the break after dominating the first half against a lucklustre Chelsea. United actually played well but once again were recklessly wasteful.

Amad should have scored at least two but had zero composure to finish. He had yet another shocker and should not have started.

No side get as many chances as United do and waste them. Bruno Fernandes was guilty too and Matheus Cunha's touch in the box when clear on goal was horrendous.

The one bit of quality in the game came from Morgan Rogers with a driving run and brilliant dinked finish.

It was the difference. A moment of real quality that punished United’s first-half profligacy soon after the second half started.

The first goal was always going to be key and United should have had it and more.

You could argue luck really is not on Michael Carrick’s side. Cunha was pushed into an offside position when he tapped home. That should have been the confidence-boosting first goal. When it isn’t going for you, it really isn’t going for you.

Then we get to Lisandro Martinez displaying zero brain cells. The guy has had a shocking season and been responsible for several goals with his blunders. The own goal against Fulham is a prime example and the failure to deal with Dominic Solanke against Tottenham.

He should have looked in the mirror before he criticised the club. He has no legs to stand on and his ridiculous barge on Fofana was off the scale stupid. He is the one letting the club down at the moment.

His moment of total idiocy ended the game with a red card and penalty which Senne Lammens should have saved, by the way.

Chelsea were never going to surrender their 2-0 lead from that point and indeed should have added more.

Bryan Mbeumo’s thunderbolt shot being finger-tipped onto the underside of the Chelsea bar by ridiculously tall Mike Penders and out to safety in the closing stages rather summed it all up.

Even when United do something great, it still doesn’t go for them.

The dice really aren’t rolling their way at the moment.

Carrick 'takes responsibility' as position hangs in balance

Michael Carrick must be tearing his hair out at these bonkers errors that keep creeping up from experienced pros.

Martinez’s head is clearly not right after his return from Las Malvinas flag-waving at the World Cup. It’s time to move him on.

Should Michael Carrick survive this latest defeat? Yes, because his team actually played really well in the first half.

And yes, with a Champions League game on Tuesday against Roma and Sunday against Villa, there is simply no time to change now.

And yes, because no one else is going to quickly improve what he has at his disposal.
