Ryan Fitzpatrick wishes he could 'take back' Bo Nix claim during savage TNF rant

Ryan Fitzpatrick has admitted he wishes he didn't say that Bo Nix was 'disrespectful to the quarterback' position during Amazon Prime's Thursday Night Football game last week.

Despite the Denver Broncos beating the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, Fitzpatrick was frustrated with Nix. The quarterback took few risks with the football, playing very conservatively and doing enough to win the game, though many argue his style of play is not sustainable.

The Broncos have a 4-2 record and made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game last year before playing without Nix, who sustained an injury on one of the final plays of their playoff win. Fitzpatrick acknowledges Nix's success in the league, but wants to see much more from the quarterback.

Fitzpatrick initially said, "Bo Nix is not playing competitively. It’s almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he’s playing football right now.

"First of all, the guy doesn't want to throw the ball. He has no trust from his coach.

"He's got two chances to be competitive, the last one being a designed run for him to run, make somebody miss and get a first down for your football team.

"He's not competing right now, and that's something that he's hung his hat on for the last two years. I don't know if he's still injured, I don't know what's going on. But it's not good enough. It's effort."

Fitzpatrick went on to state that he regrets certain words from his pretty brutal rant at Nix, but believes his point still stands.

Speaking on the Fitz & Whit podcast, "The line about being disrespectful to the quarterback position, it boiled over, and that’s the one phrase I wish I could have taken back, because I think my criticism was fair.

"I don’t think the effort and the competitiveness that he’s shown in the past, I don’t think he was showing that at the end of the game. That is somewhere I usually don’t go, but that’s what I felt.”

For the past three years, the Broncos have had one of the better defensive units in the NFL, led by cornerback Patrick Surtain II and a ferocious pass-rushing unit.

The Broncos have an opportunity to move to 5-2 with a game against the Arizona Cardinals, while Nix knows he must improve; Fitzpatrick is not the only one to criticize his start to the season.
