Old habits die hard, as Frank Lampard had a classic slip of the tongue in his post-match interview.

Frank Lampard is Stamford Bridge royalty. As a player, he built ultimate legend status over 13 years, becoming Chelsea’s all-time top scorer with 211 goals while picking up three Premier League titles and the 2012 Champions League. He even stepped back into the dugout as Blues manager across two separate stints, taking them to a top-four spot and an FA Cup final.

Now leading Coventry City in the top flight, any fixture against his old club is bound to bring up plenty of history and emotion, with the first clash coming up on the 27th of December.

Frank Lampard makes a Chelsea blunder and styles it off

Frank Lampard might be in the Coventry dugout these days, but Stamford Bridge clearly still lives rent-free in his head. In a post-match interview after a brutal 3-1 defeat, the Sky Blues manager had a proper slip of the tongue, accidentally calling his own team “Chelsea” on camera.

“But when you think of eight of our starting players who were in the Championship team last year, they’ve had a tough start for different reasons, but they’re playing now.

“If you didn’t know, just Tottenham and Chelsea, uh Coventry here like this, you wouldn’t know to say who’s the team that have been in the Premier League for the last 50 years or who’s the team that’s been out of it for 25 years. And that, for me, is a big deal from what the players produce.”

We already saw Frank Lampard tease Tottenham ahead of the 3-1 defeat for Coventry, so it’s clear that the blue is still running through his veins all these years later.
