With the Kansas City Chiefs reportedly shopping on the trade block for a pass catcher to boost their wide receiver corps, the team has been linked to a one-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champ as a logical target soon.
After a very disappointing 6-11 finish to their 2025 campaign, the Chiefs are back to being Super Bowl contenders in 2026. Heading into a Week 7 Sunday night matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City is one of the last undefeated teams left in the NFL.
While their defense has been rock solid and their run game — led by early MVP contender Kenneth Walker III — has been fantastic, they could use more weapons in their passing attack. Especially after Tyquan Thornton suffered a likely season-ending injury three weeks ago and Rashee Rice battling leg injuries.
The Chiefs have been linked to a variety of notable receiver targets in recent weeks, including Marvin Harrison Jr. and Jerry Jeudy. There has even been talk of a reunion with team great Tyreek Hill in free agency.
Well, an NFL executive told Jason La Canfora this week that “Even if they sign Hill, Andy Reid) is going to want to do something else” to boost their WR corps. And the insider believes that should be Tampa Bay Buccaneers veteran Chris Godwin Jr.
“How much of (Godwin’s) decline is due to the fact the Bucs haven’t been able to push the ball downfield for years and Baker Mayfield was not good or healthy least year and same thing this year?” La Canfora wrote. “And the loss of Mike Evans has set Tampa’s pass game back.
“The Chiefs likely need more than one roll of the dice at the receiver position given all their issues there, and lack of another playmaker was a concern even before the season began.”
The 10-year veteran has battled injuries for the last few seasons, and that should make him an affordable option in a trade. When healthy, he is a four-time 1,000-plus yard receiver and one-time Pro Bowler.
If the Chiefs added him and Hill for the second half, they would be a big boost to their receiver corps.
