RGC to dedicate match as 'tribute' to Jack Davies

Jack Cameron Wynne Davies, who was aged 24, played for Clwb Rygbi Caernarfon and RGC, and was a member of staff and former pupil at Ysgol David Hughes, Menai Bridge.

RGC will use their Super Rygbi Cymru game against Pontypool at Stadiwm Eirias, Colwyn Bay on Saturday (October 31) to honour him.

In a letter to supporters, RGC general manager Alun Pritchard wrote: “I wanted to write to you personally to say thank you, on behalf of everyone at RGC, for the support, kindness and understanding you have shown to our squad, to Jack, to Jack's family and to Clwb Rygbi Caernarfon over the last few days.

“This is something many of our young players have never experienced before, and knowing how to respond, what to say or even how to feel has been incredibly difficult.

“There is no right or wrong way to process something like this, and everyone will deal with it in their own way.

“What I do know is that we are a team who look after one another. We will stand together, support each other and, in time, find our own way to move forward while remembering and honouring Jack.

“Among Jack's many qualities were his resilience and inner strength. Despite facing numerous injuries that had kept him out of the game for more than 18 months, he never gave up.

“He was determined to play rugby and, more importantly, he was determined to represent RGC. That says everything about the person he was.

“As difficult as it is, we must now draw on that same resilience and strength, supporting one another and carrying Jack's memory with us as we move forward.

“Many people have asked what they can do to help, and my answer is simple: come and support the players, support the team, support our staff and help us honour Jack's memory.

“We will take to the field against Pontypool on October 31, and this game will be played as a tribute to Jack.

“For once, it is not about the result. It is about coming together as the RGC family, standing shoulder to shoulder and remembering one of our own.

“We will share further details about the game in the coming days. In the meantime, thank you for continuing to show the compassion, unity and support that make RGC so much more than a rugby team.

“I look forward to seeing you all at Stadiwm Eirias as we come together to remember Jack.”

Mr Davies joined Clwb Rygbi Caernarfon at the age of 12, before studying physical education and sport at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

He later returned to Caernarfon and RGC, re-joining the senior squads in 2023.

He also represented Llanfairpwll Football Club, who described him as an “excellent footballer” and an “outstanding rugby player”.

Ysgol David Hughes, the Menai Bridge school where Mr Davies taught and attended as a pupil, described his death as “a profound loss for our school community”.
