A run of six games without a victory, featuring just two goals, has left Swindon in 18th place in League Two in a season they entered hoping to challenge for promotion.
That run dates back beyond the current season, as Town have won just eight games out of 34 in the league during 2026, a run which saw them fall from title contention out of the playoffs entirely and then embark on this difficult start to the season.
The Adver understands that Clem Morfuni is still backing Holloway to turn the situation around, and does not want to move on from him, although two defeats this week could test his stance on that.
The cost of getting rid of Holloway, who has a contract until the end of next season and has a clause that guarantees a sizeable payout if he is sacked, would be prohibitive, especially if a new manager meant a new coaching staff was required.
The players are also still backing Holloway; Connor Ripley said that they would all “run through a brick wall” for their manager, and their effort remains clear on the pitch.
Holloway said that he did not feel any pressure at the moment, although he knew what would happen if results continued to go against him.
He said: “It's not sapping; it's disappointing. That doesn't sap me; that makes me stronger, and look at what I might need to do for everybody.
“All you've got to do is match my enthusiasm. They did that before, but to get out of trouble, you need the way we did it sometimes.
“Harry Smith not being back and Ollie Palmer being out is a big problem because they're big. The second division is tough enough as it is, but these are not excuses; it is where we are, and we should be bigger and better than this.
“Get two wins on the road, away from home, and everything can be brilliant next Tuesday, next Monday when we come back in, or it can be the complete opposite.
“We've got to get the right results, and if I don't get them, someone else might be here.
“That's the way life is, but I believe the group is trying as hard as it can, I believe it's working as hard as it can.”
