Hibs ripped up the form book to claim a thrilling victory over city rivals Hearts in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final at Hampden.
Despite falling behind to an early header by Claudio Braga, the Premiership's bottom-placed side came roaring back with goals from Martin Boyle and Jamie McGrath.
Hearts piled on the second-half pressure, but Marink Reedijk's side held firm to secure a place in the final against Rangers next month.
After a dramatic derby that will be remembered for years to come, Paul Forsyth assesses the individual performances.
HEARTS (4-2-3-1)
Beau Reuss – 7.5
Blameless for the two goals, he did his best to repel Hibs with a string of saves. Denied Passlack, Boyle and, in the closing stages, Klidge.
Jordi Altena – 6
Had his hands full when Boyle threatened to run riot, but stuck to his task. Supported the attack well when Hearts grew desperate.
Malachi Fagan-Walcott – 6
Caught flat-footed and square when Boyle stole in behind him to net Hibs’ equaliser. Otherwise solid enough when the pressure was on.
Jamie McCart – 7
Bust a gut to cover and thwart Hibs’ explosive breaks. Produced a number of excellent blocks, most notably one that denied Elding.
Stephen Kingsley – 7
Stood up well when Hearts needed him. His outstanding sliding block to thwart Passlack late in the game was as good as a goal.
Tomas Magnusson – 3
Left the field after just 14 minutes with a horrible head knock, picked up when he nodded Calvin Miller’s cross narrowly wide.
Laurent Mendy – 6
Outnumbered in the first half, he looked lost in midfield. Far more influential when Hearts later got a grip of that department.
Sabah Kerjota – 6
Stretched his opponents as Hearts grew into the game, but never really came up with a telling pass or effort on goal.
Calvin Miller – 5
Caused all sorts of problems with his early crosses, only to become the latest addition to Hearts’ ridiculous injury list. Hobbled off before the interval.
Josh McPake – 7
Quiet in the first half, save for a perfect cross that Braga should have converted. Direct, dangerous and back to his best after the interval.
Claudio Braga – 6
Opened the scoring from close range, but could and should have done more. Missed two free headers and had a powerful shot saved.
SUBSTITUTES: Wilson (Dhanda 83) (Magnusson 14), Guendouz (Miller 37), Benjaminsen (Kerjota 81)
Unused: Fulton, Williams, Kabore, Findlay, Pollock.
Booked: Altena
HIBS (4-2-3-1)
Raphael Sallinger – 7
Nowhere to be seen when Braga nodded Hearts ahead from inside the six-yard box, but two saves, denying Braga and Guendouz, were massive.
Felix Passlack – 7
Aggressive, positive and willing to give Hibs width in attack. Should have scored with an early chance after he was set up by Newell.
Jason Kerr – 6
Fell asleep for Braga’s early opener, but settled into the game and was a pillar of Hibs’ defence when the pressure mounted.
Marko Ivezic – 6.5
Switched off to allow Braga a free header that slipped wide. His powerful header at the other end was directed straight at the goalkeeper.
Adam Mayor – 7
Took full advantage of the early freedom he was given wide on the left. Responded well to later pressure, especially with a brilliant tackle on Kerjota.
Miguel Chaiwa – 7
Properly exploited Hearts’ depleted midfield with a strong, authoritative first-half display. Less influential after Hearts tweaked their set-up.
Joe Newell – 8
His positive, probing work was crucial to Hibs’ first-half dominance. Clipped the top of the crossbar with one shot. Set up his team’s second goal with another.
Josh Mulligan – 6.5
Strong and tactically aware. By stepping inside, he increased the midfield numbers, allowing McGrath to push forward and Passlack to overlap.
Jamie McGrath – 6.5
Playing off the front, he supported Elding at every opportunity. Reacted well to snap up the rebound for Hibs’ second.
Martin Boyle – 7.5
Inspirational talisman in attack. Transformed the game with a timely equaliser, which he stroked in off the goalkeeper and post. Almost scored a second.
Owen Elding – 6
Occupied Hearts’ backline without offering a sustained goal threat. His lovely hook over a square defence set up Boyle for the equaliser.
SUBSTITUTES: Klidge (Elding 74), Wright (Newell 74), Cadden (Boyle 85), Hanley (McGrath 85).
Unused: Smith, Iredale, Suto, Matondo, Abdulai.
Booked: Kerr, Passlack, Chaiwa, Mulligan
Wouter Vrancken – 5
Failed to cope with the early loss of Tomas Magnusson, which turned the game.
Marink Reedijk – 7
Gave his side numerical superiority in midfield, as well as the resources later to protect their lead.
