Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez had to be stretchered off against Everton. The incident occurred on the hour mark when the Argentine collided with Toffees defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
A cross from the left was delivered into the 18-yard box which led to Branthwaite careering into Martinez. Pictures show the clash of heads between the two players and the Chelsea players immediately signalling for medical assistance, while Levi Colwill can be seen with his hands on his head.
There was a lengthy delay of over seven minutes in proceedings as medical staff attended to the two players. While the England defender made his way back to his feet, but the Chelsea shot-stopper came off worse and was helped off the pitch.
TNT Sports' Darren Fletcher followed up shortly after with an update that the former Aston Villa shot-stopper was being taken to hospital for further treatment and assessment.
Martinez was seen to be awake as he was stretchered off and was moving when he departed the Hill Dickinson pitch. Chelsea held a slender lead at the time through Pedro Neto's opener shortly after the restart.
