Premier League

12.30pmAston Villa v Manchester City live

Manchester City aim to extend their flawless start to the season at Aston Villa, despite doubts over the club’s future in the top flight. Enzo Maresca is the first manager to win his first seven Premier League games in charge of a new club, yet it may all count for nothing unless City are successful in their appeal after being found guilty of Premier League financial rules. They travel to Villa, hoping to improve on a miserable recent record in Birmingham. City have lost on their past three visits to Villa Park and face a resurgent Villa. Unai Emery’s side have won five and drawn one of their past six games in all competitions as new signings Nicolas Jackson, Johan Manzambi and Zion Suzuki have quickly settled. Rob Smyth buckles up for the blog, with Will Unwin reporting from Villa Park.

Premier League

3pmClockwatch

Billy Munday clocks on as Clockwatch-meister, with two tasty 3pms to relish. Arsenal will be eager to capitalise on any City slip-ups as they welcome Everton to the Emirates. Their 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League in midweek came at the cost of an unsettling injury to Bukayo Saka, but their home record is a daunting six wins on the trot. Everton’s fine start to the season came unstuck with a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea last time, and they haven’t clocked a win in their last eight away league games. Fulham’s wait for a league win under Álvaro Arbeloa is finally over after beating Hull City last time out. The Londoners’ next test is against another promoted side in Coventry, who have won just two of their seven league games.

Premier League

5.30pmChelsea v Tottenham live

An so to the late match, as fourth-placed Chelsea host rivals Spurs after back-to-back league victories over Bournemouth and ‌Everton. Struggling Tottenham, meanwhile, finally got off the mark with Monday’s 3-1 home win over Coventry – glaringly just their fourth of 2026 in the Premier League – after a miserable start that has left them 16th with six points from seven games. It gets worse: Tottenham’s record at the Bridge is lamentable: just one win in their last 36 league visits (D11 L24) and that was back in 2017-18, a 3-1 victory under Mauricio Pochettino. Since then, they have garnered only two points in eight visits (D2 L6). Scott Murray has minute-by-minute commentary, with Barney Ronay and Jacob Steinberg our matchday duo in west London.

Formula One

11pmUS Grand Prix qualifying

Kimi Antonelli is poised to become F1’s youngest champion, and Italy’s first in 73 years, but the 20-year-old will have to win and hope the Texan stars align for him elsewhere. Four years old when Sebastian Vettel became the hitherto youngest champion at 23 in 2010, Antonelli has a mighty 102-point lead over Mercedes teammate George Russell. There will be a maximum 125 points remaining to win after the chequered flag drops at the Circuit of the Americas, meaning Antonelli – in his second F1 season – will clinch the title if he extends his lead by 23. Only a victory would give him that margin but the Italian will still need Russell and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton to finish no higher than ninth or fifth respectively. Otherwise the wait to become Italy’s first champion since Alberto Ascari in 1953 rolls on to (at least) ‌Mexico City a weekend later. Can Antonelli land pole in Texas? Will Magee live blogs qualifying with Giles Richards reporting from Austin.

Football

8am (all times GMT)Matchday live

With the the clocks having gone back one hour at 2am in the UK, John Brewin enjoys an extra hour in bed before rising early with all the latest news and views on a frantic football Sunday. Five Premier League blockbusters, the Manchester derby in the WSL, Hibs v Celtic north of the border – all scrumptious appetisers before the evening’s clasico main course comes crashing into view. There’s no better place to start the sporting day.

Cricket

8amPakistan v England live

James Wallace and Daniel Gallan are on OBO duty as England follow up one of the most bizarre one-day internationals. On Thursday, Sri Lanka trumped Harry Brook’s record double century with the second-highest successful run chase ever in ODI cricket history to hand England a second successive defeat in the Pakistan tri-series. The tournament moves to Lahore where England, who lost to Pakistan by 87 runs in the first match, will take on unbeaten Pakistan again in the return game.

Premier League

2pmClockwatch

Daniel Harris has his hands full at the helm of our Premier League clocko: Hull City v Brentford; Liverpool v Brighton and – with all eyes on Michael Carrick’s mutinous mob – Manchester United v Bournemouth; there’s compelling action in abundance. After a humiliating Champions League capitulation and post-match criticism by Bruno Fernandes, Carrick is walking on thin managerial ice. Carrick’s underachievers are 13th in the Premier League before Sunday’s visit by Bournemouth and could drop into the bottom three if results go against them this weekend. With the club beset by infighting and off to their worst domestic league start for decades, Carrick was left clinging to his job after the 4-1 defeat at Como on Wednesday. Deepening the sense of crisis, the captain Fernandes afterwards took aim at his manager’s tactics, saying United had to be more “brave”. Defender Lisandro Martínez last week criticised the club’s board for not investing enough in the transfer market. A toxic brew and speculation of Eddie Howe waiting in the wings, it looks like squeaky posterior time for the hapless Carrick.

Premier League

4.30pm Sunderland v Leeds live

Rob Smyth follows events at the Stadium of Light as hosts Sunderland seek to end a run of four straight league defeats. Régis Le Bris’ side dropped to the bottom of the table after their 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth last time out but they will have been encouraged by their 1-1 Europa League draw against Lech Poznan in midweek. Leeds stood seventh going into the weekend, with 10 points from 10 games. Louise Taylor reports.

American football

5pmNFL live

Graham Searles buckles up for another evening of gripping gridiron. It’s a somewhat unusual round with anxiety surrounding Pittsburgh’s meeting with New Orleans in Paris amid recent civil unrest in the French capital. Then the Steelers’ Friday morning practice session at Stade de France was cancelled because of bad weather. Week seven also features two of the three unbeaten teams in Minnesota (at Indianapolis) and San Francisco (v Atlanta).

La Liga

8pmBarcelona v Real Madrid live

La Liga leaders Barcelona have been eagerly awaiting Sunday’s Clasico as a chance to stretch the gap between themselves and rivals Real Madrid to nine points. Some turbulence in the final approach to the clash at Camp Nou has complicated the picture for Hansi Flick’s Spanish champions, who suffered their first defeat of the season at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday. By contrast Real Madrid have won four consecutive matches, thrashing RB Leipzig on Wednesday, and are starting to look like challengers for the first time since José Mourinho’s arrival this summer. Despite that, the equation remains favourable for Flick. With Raphinha fit again and Lamine Yamal enjoying a state of grace, Barcelona will be confident of building on their six-point lead over third-placed Madrid. Niall McVeigh hosts the blog and Sid Lowe reports from Camp Nou.

Formula One

8pmUnited States Grand Prix

Max Verstappen can delay Kimi Antonelli’s title celebrations by notching a third consecutive win with another triumph at the United States Grand Prix. Red Bull’s four-time world champion won both the Bahrain Grand Prix (in Malaysia) and then in Singapore to emerge as a leading contender for more success just when Mercedes’ precocious 20-year-old Italian moved within reach of the title. The Dutchman, who has acknowledged Antonelli’s generational talent, won from pole at the Circuit of the Americas last year and is chasing a fifth win at the Texan track where Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton was won five times. We’ll be live blogging the race, lap-by-thrilling-lap – and perhaps saluting a new world champion at the chequered flag.
