Jason Witten reportedly becomes the offensive play-caller at Oklahoma

If, as some believe, former Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is destined to eventually become the head coach of America’s team, he’s taking the next step in his coaching career with Oklahoma’s team.

Via SoonerScoop.com, Witten will become the offensive play-caller at the University of Oklahoma, following the in-season firing of offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle.

Witten has been serving as the Sooners’ tight ends coach. He had been a high-school coach since 2021.

The 44-year-old Witten initially retired after 15 seasons with the Cowboys, worked on Monday Night Football for a season, and then returned to the NFL for 2019 (with the Cowboys) and 2020 (with the Raiders). He’s in his first year as a college coach.

Whether he eventually works for the Cowboys as an assistant coach or is eventually hired to run the whole show, there’s a sense that Witten will inevitably be on the Dallas staff.
