Seattle Seahawks superstar wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has separated himself even further from the competition in the NFL’s receiving yards race following another big performance against the Chicago Bears in Week 8.
Smith-Njigba finished with six receptions for 118 yards in the matchup, bringing his season total to 985 receiving yards through eight games played, which currently has him positioned as the NFL’s leading receiver. His latest performance extended his advantage over the second-place receiver, Cincinnati Bengals star WR Tee Higgins, to 259 yards.
Behind Smith-Njigba, Higgins sits at No. 2 overall with 726 yards. Dallas Cowboys star WR CeeDee Lamb follows at No. 3 with 709, ahead of Green Bay Packers star WR Christian Watson, who is No. 4 with 708, and New Orleans Saints receiver Chris Olave, who is No. 5 with 636.
Smith-Njigba is also in a strong position to maintain his league lead next week. Even if he finishes with as modest a receiving yards output as is conceivable in Week 9, a gargantuan amount of yards from others in the top five will need to be put up to overtake him. Beyond the immediate leaderboard, Smith-Njigba is on pace to record approximately 2,093 receiving yards, putting him in position to surpass Calvin Johnson's single-season NFL record of 1,964 yards, established in 2012.
