It was confirmed on Wednesday that Strahinja Pavlovic has signed a long-term contract extension with AC Milan, and he will net a nice pay rise.
Pavlovic is a pillar of the Milan squad and an integral part of Ruben Amorim’s new project. The Rossoneri center-back arrived in Italy two years ago from Red Bull Salzburg for €20m, including a fixed fee and potential bonuses.
Twenty days later, he made his Serie A debut as a starter. The following week, he scored his first goal for the club. Despite the team’s difficult last two seasons, Pavlovic has consistently held onto his starting spot, growing both on and off the pitch in terms of personality and leadership.
For this reason, the club decided to initiate talks to extend Pavlovic’s contract. Earlier this week, he arrived at Casa Milan to sign his new deal until June 2031, with an option for another year, as negotiations went quickly and smoothly.
Of course, the 25-year-old will get a salary increase in recognition of his achievements so far. Pavlovic’s salary has risen from €1.7m to approximately €3m net, nearly double his previous salary, Calciomercato.com report.
According to a story reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, several Premier League clubs approached Pavlovic’s agent in the summer to see if there was any room for negotiation, but the player himself made it clear he wasn’t interested in leaving Milan and staying with the Rossoneri.
With Milan, Pavlović has made 80 appearances, 75 of which were as a starter, and he has scored seven goals. After obtaining his signature, reports suggest that there are a couple of others that Gerry Cardinale wants done.
