Peebles Golf Club hosts end of year presentation night

More than 100 members gathered for the annual event, held to recognise achievements on and off the course.

It was also a chance to reflect on club highlights, with a special video recap created by Ross Duncan.

Stuart Pender, club manager, said: "We had about 120 people which was a great turnout. Everybody was welcomed by our captain Denise Richards, who is the club’s first-ever female captain.

"She welcomed everyone then we had a lovely video put together by Ross Duncan showing everything that’s happened during the year which was enjoyable."

A major talking point of the evening was Jamie Morris’ 15th club championship win, equalling the long-standing record held by TT Sanderson.

Mr Pender said: "Jamie was awarded with an honorary membership for the club for equalling that title so that went down well. That was quite a nice touch on the night."

June Anne Clark was also recognised for winning her fourth consecutive ladies’ title.

The evening included a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Now, raising £2,400 in support of two club members currently undergoing treatment.

The Volunteer of the Year award went to Val McKean, who joined the club in 2008 and was praised for her contributions to the ladies’ section, club gardens, and environmental projects.

Mr Pender said: "She’s been a member for years and helps out with loads and loads of stuff. She's an amazing help to the club and she was a hugely popular recipient."

Ms McKean was recognised for launching the ladies’ winter league, managing the club’s garden group, and founding the Biodiversity and Ecology Group (BEG) in 2021.

Her efforts to enhance the course’s natural beauty and support pollinators have led to the creation of vibrant garden areas throughout the grounds.
